Increasing Athletic Performance                       Listen To Our Radio Show: Ask Dr. "Why?"

There are several purposes for this information:

  • To show you how to improve performance while doing your favorite sports activity.

  • To educate you on how to avoid sports injuries.

  • To show you how to repair injuries you might already have.

There are a variety of factors with improving performance and in preventing sports injuries.  The most important of these are:

  • Stress

  • Flexibility

  • Reducing fat

Stress, Increased Flexibility and Reduce Fat

Stress

Stress may have the biggest effect of all on athletic performance, injury prevention, recovery from injury, and on your own general health.

Increase Flexibility

Flexibility is defined as the degree of your freedom of movement.  Some persons are more flexible than others, but it is a lack of flexibility that can cause injury and reduce your performance.

Reduce Fat

Finally, all athletes and physically active individuals know that the more muscle mass they have and the less body fat they carry, the more effective they will be at their chosen sport.  It is commonly believed that the only way to reduce fat is slowly through diet and exercise.  However, today we will show you a revolutionary way to quickly decrease fat and lose weight.

Many people get involved with sports to reduce stress and improve their overall health.  Stress not only affects your athletic performance but is also related to 80 % of all health problems.

Today you have two choices regarding your health and your performance as an athlete:

You can do the same things you’re currently doing and get the same results,

OR

You can try something new and do something different and get a different result.

The choice is yours.

Let's Now Look At Some Solutions

Let’s now look at some solutions:

Stress

Let’s first look at one method to relieve stress and repair joints that may have lost their flexibility or are causing you pain.  When an injury occurs, the surrounding muscles tighten up to prevent movement and to allow the area to heal.  This is called physical stress.  Unfortunately, long-term muscle spasms can create other problems.  When there is long-term spasm, specific points in the muscle build up toxins.  These toxins make the muscles sore, irritate the nerves and refer pain to other parts of the body.  They are called Trigger Points.  Trigger points can cause severe pain, restrict muscle contraction, reduce normal joint motion, increase the risk of other injuries and slow injury repair.  Trigger Point Therapy gives an instant reduction in pain, increases your range of motion, accelerates injury repair and improves athletic performance.  You are welcome to attend one of our Trigger Point Workshops and learn to locate and treat trigger points by applying pressure directly into the spasm.

Flexibility

To improve flexibility, you need to stretch ligaments, tendons and muscles before physical activity because, like plastic, they are stiff until heated up.  So even before you stretch you must warm up.  This can be done with a brisk walk or an easy jog.  The idea is that you should raise your body temperature by doing easy exercises before stretching.

There are numerous stretches that are available for you to learn, but the key point is that stretches should be done before any athletic performance. Flexibility can be tested by measuring what is called “Range of Motion.”  Each joint has an ideal range of motion, which is the distance it should normally move.  If a joint does not have its full range of motion, then it is not possible for the muscles that move that joint to fully contract.  Decreased joint motion results in decreased muscle function.

Automobile accidents, sports and work injuries, and other traumas can all cause a loss of normal joint motion.  Even after the pain goes away, a person can be left with reduced motion and a loss of normal function.

A loss of full range of motion is the primary cause of joint degeneration and is directly related to your ability to play a sport, exercise or work out effectively. A reduced range of motion can also lead to joint pain, headaches, numbness, or tingling and pain in the arms or legs.

There are two types of range of motion:  Passive and Active.

  • Passive range of motion

is the motion of the joint as moved by someone else.  It is the stretch of the ligaments holding two bones together. Chiropractors are specially trained to find and treat losses in passive range of joint motion.

  • Active range of motion

is when you contract a muscle yourself, as in turning your head or touching your toes.  Active range of motion is improved by stretching after properly warming up.

Body Fat

The next area involved with improving sports performance and reducing injury is removing body fat.

In August 2008, Research Scientists at Johns Hopkins University reported that 65 percent of American adults and 33 percent of school age children are overweight or obese.  They predict that 90 percent of Americans will be obese (more than 30 pounds overweight) within the next 20 years!  This means the average American carries more weight than they should.  This extra fat makes the body work harder, which in turn, reduces performance, increases the risk of injuries and slows down recovery.

More importantly, excess fat has been found to be a major cause of heart disease, diabetes, cancer, arthritis and numerous other health problems.  Exercise and dieting are the most common, yet difficult ways to reduce body fat.  However, now there is a revolutionary and easy way to get results.  It’s called The Doctor Supervised Detoxification Program.

Our Detoxification Program is based on the fact that the average person comes into contact with more than 82,000 chemical on a weekly basis.  These chemicals are found in our food, water, air and cosmetics.  Many of these chemicals cannot be filtered out by the organs of the body, so they stay in the blood stream creating damage.

To protect you from these harmful chemicals the body surrounds them in fat, keeping them away from vital organs and glands.  If you remove the toxins from the body, then the excess fat will be flushed out too!

Our Detoxification Program consists of taking specific food based ingredients within the program guidelines, which then flush the toxic chemical out of your body.  The result is often an increase in energy and a rapid and sustained loss of body fat.

In Conclusion

In Conclusion

Teams, individuals and athletes looking to optimize performance and reduce the likelihood of a player injury would do well to copy the success of one European sports organization where Chiropractic plays a starring role.  The team is a legendary soccer club known as A.C. Milan.  Much of its success emanates from its long-time medical director, Jean-Pierre Meersseman, Doctor of Chiropractic.

"Players are seen every day by the Chiropractor," said Dr. Meersseman: “This allows us to prevent numerous injuries while maximizing each player’s performance.  The results of the program are enormously impressive.  Since the implementation of this project in 2002, the incidence of non-traumatic injuries has dropped by 92 percent.”

Because of improved results, U.S. Olympic teams have had a Chiropractor on their staff since the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, CA.  Dr David Pascal, Chiropractor to over 30 athletes at the Beijing Olympics says: “My athletes have me treat them to increase their flexibility, lower their stress and decrease their risk of injury so they can compete at their very best.”

Chiropractors are now used by athletes at all levels to improve their performance and repair their injuries.  Chiropractors are working with teams from high schools to colleges, in addition to many professional leagues like the NFL and NBA and, as mentioned earlier, the Olympics.

To improve your athletic performance and to prevent or treat any injuries, we recommend a combination of:

Chiropractic care

Trigger Point Therapy

Stretching, and

Cleansing the body of toxic chemicals
