In this video, Dr. Huntoon discusses High Blood Pressure and what you need to know if you are being told you have it.

Most Doctor's Offices will not take your blood pressure properly.  They only take it while you are seated.

Proper evaluation of your blood pressure needs to be done in 3 positions.

If this has never been done for you, perhaps you do not have high blood pressure, or the medication is not addressing the true cause.  We can help you.

How To Prevent High Blood Pressure

High blood pressure increases your risk for heart disease. People at any age can take steps each day to keep blood pressure levels normal. Working with a Holistic Chiropractor is the best way to develop a life-style for creating normal blood pressure.  They will help you develop a plan to return your blood pressure to normal and to place you back in control of your health.

Increases in blood pressure increases your risk for heart disease. People at any age can take steps each day to keep blood pressure levels normal.

Lifestyle
  • Eat a Healthy Diet.

Eating healthfully can help keep your blood pressure down. Eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, which provide nutrients such as potassium and fiber. Also, eat foods that are low in saturated fat and cholesterol.

Avoid sodium by limiting the amount of salt you add to your food. Be aware that many processed foods and restaurant meals are high in sodium.

  • Maintain a Healthy Weight.

Being overweight can raise your blood pressure. Losing weight can help you lower your blood pressure.

To find out whether your weight is healthy, doctors often calculate a number called the body mass index (BMI). Doctors sometimes also use waist and hip measurements to measure a person’s excess body fat.

  • Be Physically Active.

Physical activity can help lower blood pressure. The Surgeon General recommends that adults should engage in moderate physical activities for at least 30 minutes on most days of the week.

Key Definitions

Cholesterol is a fat-like substance in the body. High levels in the blood can lead to heart disease and stroke.

Saturated fats come largely from animal fat in the diet, but also from some vegetable oils such as palm oil.

Sodium is the element in salt that can raise blood pressure. Most of the sodium we eat comes from processed and restaurant foods.

Diabetes is a disease that affects the body’s use of insulin. Insulin tells the body to remove sugar from the blood. People with diabetes either don't make enough insulin, can't use their own insulin as well as they should, or both.

What To Consider

Don't smoke. Smoking injures blood vessels and speeds up the hardening of the arteries. Further, smoking is a major risk for heart disease and stroke.  If you don’t smoke, don’t start. If you do smoke, quitting will lower your risk for heart disease and stroke. Your doctor can suggest programs to help you quit.

Limit alcohol use. Drinking too much alcohol is associated with high blood pressure.  If you drink alcohol, you should do so in moderation—no more than one drink per day for women or two drinks per day for men.

What You Can Do

Check Your Blood Pressure.

Getting your blood pressure checked is important because high blood pressure often has no symptoms.  That is why it is called the "silent killer."

Your doctor can measure your blood pressure, or you can use a machine available at many pharmacies. You can also use a home monitoring device to measure your blood pressure.

Make sure you ALWAYS check your blood pressure in 3 positions (seated, followed by standing, followed by laying down) to fully understand what your blood pressure is and how your body is reacting to stress. This will help you and your doctor understand the underlying cause of your blood pressure and help you develop a plan for restoring balance to your body and your blood pressure.

The part of the body that regulates and controls blood pressure is your Adrenal glands.  These two tiny glands sit above your kidneys and regulate the sodium/potassium balance within your body.  When these glands become over-worked, your response to will be problematic and your blood pressure will begin to rise.

Supporting your Adrenal glands with high quality Whole Food Supplements designed to feed your Adrenal System is vital for remedying your blood pressure concerns.  This should always be done under the direction of your healthcare provider.

Traditional Medical Treatment Options and Diagnosis

Medication

If you already have high blood pressure, chances are you will be on medication.  This, although will help to lower your blood pressure readings, is not the best way to go about building health.

Medication can be quite effective and has a litany of different, sometimes fatal side effects associated with them.

There is no guarantee ahead of time what side-effects you may develop as a result of being on medication.

Therefore, medication has no real solution for your high blood pressure or how to treat it without medication.

Dr. Huntoon's Alternative Medical Treatment Options

Working with a Holistic Chiropractor who can help you monitor your blood pressure and address the underlying cause of your high blood pressure is important. By developing a well-rounded, multifaceted approach will help you understand how to maintain a normal blood pressure level and what you can do to increase your cardiovascular and blood pressure health.

Developing a healthy life-style with proper guidance from your Holistic Chiropractor is the best prevention when considering how to approach your health.

Treatments using Acupuncture, Homeopathy and Naturopathy have also benefited many with blood pressure concerns.

Prevent or Treat Your Health Conditions

  • Prevent and Manage Diabetes.

You can reduce your risk of diabetes by eating a healthy diet, maintaining a healthy weight, and being physically active.

About 60% of people who have diabetes also have high blood pressure.2 If you have diabetes, you can lower your risk for high blood pressure by following the healthy guidelines listed here.

  • Treat High Blood Pressure.

If you already have high blood pressure, your medical doctor may prescribe medications in addition to lifestyle changes.

All drugs have side effects, so talk with your medical doctor or pharmacist on a regular basis. As your blood pressure improves, your doctor will want to monitor it often.

Following Dr. Huntoon's Blood Pressure Protocol will help to naturally lower your blood pressure.  The effect of this Protocol is to relax the blood vessels, thereby lowering your blood pressure without the use of medication.

Supporting your Adrenal glands with other Whole Food Supplements will also be necessary, as Adrenal burn-out is the primary reason for elevated blood pressure.

Lifestyle changes are more important then taking medications.  Work with your healthcare provider to achieve this goal.
